Judgement Night – 2019 Premier League of Darts preview

Judgement Night is upon us as the landscape of the 2019 Unibet Premier League of darts changes forever after tonight’s action. All eyes will be on Dutch legend Raymond van Barneveld once more in Rotterdam, and as it’ll be his final Premier League appearance of his career after being relegated last night.

Here is how we think it will go down on Thursday night, which will be available to watch in Rileys Sports Bars.

When and Where is It on

As you saw last night, there is no atmosphere quite like Rotterdam in a 10,000 seater sold out venue. Expect more of the same tonight, especially for van Barneveld’s final Rotterdam Premier League walk-on.

All the action is exclusive to Sky, but we’ll have it on our big screens, so you can catch all the action.

The form guide

Van Gerwen returns to the top of the table after a 7-1 demolition of Peter Wright. Rob Cross’s second defeat of his campaign means he is now level on points with the Dutchman.

James Wade, Peter Wright and Gerwyn Price are all winless in three matches, whereas Mensur Suljovic is three wins from three and has propelled himself into the Finals nigh qualification places.

What the experts are saying

All of the PDC predictors (namely Dan Dawson, Peter Manley, Alan Warriner-Little, Colin Lloyd, Rod Harrington and Paul Nicholson) believe van Gerwen will get the better of van Barneveld in what will almost certainly be an emotional tie to say the least.

The experts also have Rileys favourite Rob Cross as running out a comfortable winner against contender de Zwaan. The Black Cobra was expected to cause an upset against Cross at the Worlds in December but it would be the former World Champ that would come out a comfortable winner on that occasion.

Stats to impress your friends

Despite the generally positive reaction with regards to the contenders that have replaced Gary Anderson – none have won so far. Jeffrey de Zwaan will seek to change that against Cross.

Van Barneveld and Michael van Gerwen have played each other 56 times! MVG has prevailed on 36 occasions, but it is 2-2 in their most recent clashes.

James Wade has won his last 5 games against Michael Smith.

The odds

Via Unibet, Darryl Gurney is 8/5 to win the night’s opening game against Suljovic, while van Barneveld is both 11/2 to win or draw against van Gerwen. Contender de Zwaan is 7/2 to win or draw against Rob Cross.

How do we think it will go

Its hard to look past Raymond van Barneveld’s final Premier League game as being the main attraction this evening. Poetic perhaps that he is playing Michael van Gerwen who surpassed him (and indeed everyone else) as the World’s best player. Expect an emotional finale to tonight’s proceedings from the orange army.
