Anger is a very normal emotion that can occur for many different reasons. Anger isn’t necessarily a negative emotion though. A person can become angry if they’ve been hurt by someone, threatened, provoked or taken advantage of. So there’s definitely times when anger can be a normal emotional response but it’s the intensity and holding onto anger that’s unhealthy and has a negative impact on a person’s life.
Everyone deals with anger differently but when a person’s unable to let go of anger and move on, they hold the stress and frustration inside and it affects all aspects of their life.
People don’t realize just how toxic clinging onto anger can be to their health and wellbeing. When anger is experienced it affects a person mentally, emotionally and physically and held onto, continues to do harm.
Address The Source Of Anger
If possible, addressing the source of your anger can help relieve the frustration and hostility. Confronting the person or other cause of your anger is probably going to be counter-productive if; it’s not the right time, you haven’t taken time to calm down, breathe and definitely if you don’t think before speaking. Bitterly lashing out in an aggressive manner isn’t effective and it really doesn’t make a person feel any better.
Express Anger Feelings Through Writing
Unfortunately, there are times when expressing your feelings won’t resolve the situation and possibly make things worse. For some people, venting their feelings through journaling helps them express and release their anger. Expressing angry feelings on paper and burning written thoughts can be a healthy way of letting go of stress and pent up anger.
Seek Professional Help
Sometimes professional help is needed to overcome serious anger problems. When anger is uncontrollable, extreme and/or aggressive seeking help from qualified professionals helps people regain control. Professionals help people overcome anger issues by identifying underlying causes and learn to manage frustration and anger in a positive way.
Uncontrollable hostility and frequent bouts of anger are harmful serious issues that need to be addressed by a skilled mental health provider.
Anger issues can lead to; serious mental and physical illness, violence, domestic problems, job loss, substance use, chemical addiction, and even death.
Letting go of anger isn’t easy but holding onto strong bitter feelings, resentment and hostile thoughts sadly only hurts the person unable to let go and move on. Festering angry emotions carried inside can be venomous stripping an individual of their health and happiness.
Anger is self-destructive, forgiveness and letting go of angry feelings is the most powerful healing gift we can give ourselves.
