The sportsbooks in New Jersey did the best they could to convince the state authorities to allow them to offer lines on this year’s Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest, set to take part in Coney Island on July 4th.
However, to the dismay of the bookies, the Garden State wouldn’t budge.
Therefore, folks back east will be shut out from betting on if Joey Chestnut can win for a record 12th time — unless, of course, they have an account on MyBookie.ag or any of the other top entertainment betting sites covering the contest.
At MyBookie, you’ll not only be able to wager on if Chestnut can continue on his reign, but you can also bet on how many wieners the winner will end up chowing down.
Don’t forget about 34-year-old Miki Sudo, who will be attempting to win the women’s division for the sixth consecutive year.
In all, there are four Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating contest prop bets that you can place, so let’s dive in and find out where the value lies.

Men’s 2019 Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest – Odds to Win
Are you ready to watch the Hot Dog Eating Contest that has been hosted on the corner of Surf and Stillwell every year since 1916? The 2019 Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest can be seen on ESPN2 live on Independence Day, and Joey Chestnut isn’t just favored to win the event.
He is the overwhelming betting favorite, as you can see below.
In the last 12 editions of this iconic eating competition, Joey Chestnut has walked away as the champion on 11 occasions. The only instance he didn’t win the “Mustard Belt” was in 2015. That year, Matt Stonie ingested 62 weenies, edging out the 60 eaten by Chestnut in his bid for his ninth straight crown.
It’s safe to say that Joey took this rather personally because he came back the following year and trounced Stonie on the scoreboard, 70-53.
The fact of the matter is Chestnut swallows frankfurters whole like it’s his job — most likely because that’s exactly what his livelihood entails.
I’d advocate against not falling for the +500 price tag that is set up like a trap. Don’t bet against the 35-year-old from San Jose, who happens to be the top-ranked eater in the world according to majorleagueeating.com’s official rankings.
It just wouldn’t be a wise move.
Total Number of Hot Dogs Eaten by the Winner of Men’s 2019 Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest
Whether it’s Joey or someone else, how many hot dogs do you think can be gobbled up in ten minutes on the big stage?
Before you make a prediction, I’ll lend some support and highlight how many wieners the men’s champ has inhaled since the time limit was set at ten minutes back in 2008.
|Year||Number of Hot Dogs Eaten by Winner|
The 74 “meat cylinders” Chestnut devoured at last year’s competition set a new world record, so you have to ask yourself the following question.
Do I think Joey Chestnut can break his own mark and achieve new heights?
To be fair, the bet accounts for all males who will be participating in the 2019 Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest, not just Joey. Before you get excited and take the plus money attached to the over, press play below and watch the scintillating performance from Chestnut in 2018.
You’ll see that eating 74 hot dogs in ten minutes is even crazier than you thought.
How nuts is that?
I’m rooting for a new record, and I love not having to lay any juice, so I’m siding with the over after all.
Women’s 2019 Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest – Odds to Win
Say hello to Miki Sudo, a competitive eater from New York.
Perhaps she isn’t as widely recognizable to the American public as Joey Chestnut is, but I can assure you that everyone associated with Nathan’s Famous corporation respects her as much as anyone in the industry.
If you thought Chestnut was a staggering favorite to win on the men’s side, wait until you feast your eyes on the women’s odds.
Since winning a pho eating contest in 2013, Sudo has been a force to be reckoned with on the competitive eating scene. Miki might only tip the scales at 125 pounds, but don’t let her smallish frame fool you into thinking her esophagus isn’t well-trained.
Miki is the top-ranked female eater in the land and once consumed 16.5 pints of vanilla ice cream in 6 minutes.
A name to watch out for that could challenge is Michelle Lesco, a 34-year-old who won the regional qualifier in Las Vegas and is no stranger to ingesting inordinate amounts of food. Nicknamed “Cardboard Shell,” Lesco finished runner-up to Sudo in both the 2017 and 2018 Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest.
As impressive as Michelle is, I’m still not sure if she can even lick the dirt off of Miki Sudo’s cleats.
That was a nod to the classic movie The Sandlot, but here’s the moral of the story.
Don’t try and get cute by fading Miki. It’ll presumably just come back to bite you.
Total Number of Hot Dogs Eaten by the Winner of Women’s 2019 Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest
Last year, Miki Sudo won by downing 37 hot dogs in ten minutes, winning by a margin of eight weenies.
Do you anticipate that the women’s champion in 2019 will be able to cram more or less than 38.5 hot dogs down her throat?
Like I did for the men’s division, I’ll give you some data that may help you draw a conclusion.
I should preface that the Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest didn’t implement a distinct women’s championship until 2011.
|Year||Number of Hot Dogs Eaten by Winner|
I mentioned that Miki Sudo has won every year since 2014, but I failed to point out that Sonya Thomas won the first three contests. I showcased Michelle Lesco as a legit challenger, and “The Lovely” Juliet Lee could very easily wind up factoring in.
Between the four of them, I suspect they’ll be pushing each other all the way to the finish line. In the end, I’ll say Sudo emerges, and I’ll also say it’ll be with a score of at least 39 hot dogs.
